Attempted Robbery Ends With Suspect Shot
POSTED: 5:43 pm EDT August 4, 2008 UPDATED: 8:04 pm EDT August 4, 2008 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A person who police said tried to rob a man in the Brentwood area was shot by his victim Monday afternoon. The suspected robber, 29-year-old Cedric Battle, was in critical condition after the shooting near West 24th and Pearl streets. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office received a call about someone being shot shortly after 1 p.m. That's when police said they found an armed robber who picked the wrong target. "Being robbed, the person actually defended himself by shooting the assailant. The assailant ran away," said JSO homicide Sgt. Derrick Lewis. He said the victim, 50-year-old Klay Bickell, was on West 24th Street repairing a house when Battle approached him and demanded money. During the attempted robbery, Bickell was able to shoot Battle. Battle fled but later collapsed near 23rd and Pearl streets, according to police. Lewis said Bickell was armed because he felt threatened working in the area. "He felt that he was in a dangerous area, so he carried a gun on him or nearby. So, he had a gun available to him, and you know the rest," Lewis said. The wounded suspect was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Bickell was not hurt during the incident. The attempted robbery victim was interviewed by detectives and was later released. http://www.news4jax.com/news/17091702/detail.html |

This guy more than likely won't need it. Florida has the castle doctrine as well as the stand your ground one. You don't have to run away before defending yourself. Once you feel legitimatly threatened then you're free to fire. Don't know the details as far as the law is concerned... but this guy is fine. :-) |

Unarmed citizen subdues an armed robber caught on tape:
Story: Tulsa Police express their thanks to a citizen who helped them arrest an armed robbery suspect. The News On 6's crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports police say a 44-year-old American Airlines employee is a hero and it was all caught on tape. The fight wasn't easy. The good Samaritan has injuries all because he was courageous enough to try to save himself and others in the Food Pyramid store, near 51st and Memorial, from a robber who seemed ready to hurt someone. The robber walked into the store with his face completely covered and his gun already in his hand. He told the employees and customers to move to the front of the store. When a customer bent down, the robber fired a shot that barely missed the customer's head. Then, the robber's gun jammed and that's when the good Samaritan, Greg Stutzman, jumped on the robber and the fight was on. The battle moved through the store, out into the entryway and eventually outside. Despite getting hurt in the process, Greg never gave up. If it wasn't for Greg, police say they'd have no idea who the robber is, because, just as in previous Food Pyramid robberies, he was masked up and not identifiable. Stutzman has their gratitude and even though they don't recommend fighting with robbers, they believe he did it just right. "You have to win the fight. You gotta keep going. You can't quit because it hurts, and this guy proves you can win," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Dave Walker. Officers arrested 38-year-old Tony Cleveland. Records show he has a number of robbery and assault convictions from Hughes and Oklahoma Counties, including a 25 year sentence in 1987. Detectives say it's clear Cleveland isn't going to change his ways, so they hope he gets sent back to prison and they say a conviction in this case, should put him there for the rest of his life. Not "pool cleaner" status because BG lived and family jewels remained attached and unscathed, but good anyway. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< |
